Cyclist robbed at knifepoint

October 3 2011
A cyclist was robbed of his bike at knifepoint in Cornishway, Woodhouse Park Wythenshawe.

At 5.45pm on Thursday 29 September 2011, a 33-year-old man took a train
from Manchester to Heald Green and was cycling the rest of the way home
from work.

He noticed a man and a boy, who were also on bikes, as he left the
station.

As he was cycling along Cornishway, the man and boy cycled up to him, the
man lifted his top and showed the victim a knife hidden underneath and
demanded the man's bike.

The victim handed them his bike and they cycled off towards Ravenscarr
Crescent with it. The man walked the rest of his way home and called
police.

The first robber was described as a white man, aged in his early 20s, 5ft
5in tall, of regular build with short blond hair. He was wearing a black
t-shirt, mid length black shorts with a red pattern on the left leg.

The second robber was described as a white boy, aged 12 or 13, 5ft tall,
of slim build with longer blond hair. He was wearing a bright blue jumper,
grey t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms and was riding a blue bike.

Detective Constable Anna Meakin, based at South Manchester CID, said: This
man should not have to face such thuggery on his way home from a hard
day's work so we are determined to find those responsible.

"Cornishway is about half a mile from the train station so I'd be keen to
speak to anyone who might've seen the victim and the robbers on the
journey between.

"If you saw or know anything about this, please contact us."

Anyone with information is asked to call officers in south Manchester on
0161 856 6154 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on
0800 555 111.
