MHA 9 - 6 Irlam
Ten lucky 6th form students followed in the footsteps of Manchester United legends Bobby Charlton, George Best, Eric Cantona, Ryan Giggs and many more as they stepped out in the indoor arena at the Cliff Training ground in Salford to face Irlam.
Clearly nervous and excited at the prospect of playing at such a venue, the game started with both teams trying to get a foothold in the game. MHA struck first, Paul scoring low in the corner. From there, Irlam started to find some form and soon pulled back two goals to take the lead. MHA responded positively. Aidan hitting a freekick hard into the net before skipper George hit a delicious curling effort into the top corner. MHA extended the lead with a lovely worked goal, played from the back, out wide to Anthony who's pin-point cross found 'super sub' David E, who powered his header in from close range. Just on the stroke of half time, Irlam scored a dipping long range effort. 4-3 up at half time and all to play for.
With a slight reshuffle at half time, MHA were quick out of the blocks, an own goal given them a 5-3 lead. But, to their credit, Irlam never gave up and pulled another goal back quickly. Paul, who was on fire, dinking this way and that and linking brilliantly with the impressive Daly then added two goals in quick succession. Again, Irlam came back strong, scoring the next two. David E and Paul then both completed their hat-tricks to leave the game beyond doubt. As the players tired in the final moments, Irlam continued to battle away but the margin was too great.
