A convicted murderer from Benchill has been jailed for a string of sex attacks on children ranging from aged five to 13.
David Richard Taylor, aged 65, of Merewood Avenue, Benchill, had systematically abused 11 victims over the course of 40 years since 1972 and was abusing a child the day he was arrested.
Taylor was convicted of 27 offences of rape, attempted rape and indecent assault of children following a four week trial at Manchester Crown Court.
He was sentenced to eight life sentences to run concurrently and will not be eligible for parole for 12 years.
The investigation was carried out by the Public Protection Unit at West Didsbury and began with Taylor's arrest on 5 November 2009.
Two girls aged 13 and 10 had told officers Taylor had raped and sexually assaulted them over the course of four years.
He was charged with these offences and during the course of the subsequent
inquiry it became apparent that there were many more victims over a much
longer period of time.
Taylor was convicted of the murder of a man in 1987. He deliberately drove his car at a group of young men, killing one of them.
He was jailed for life in and served 12 years in prison before being released in 1999.
Detective Constable Emma Wilkinson, of the West Didsbury Safeguarding Unit, said: "Taylor is an evil man who has consistently preyed on children throughout most of his adult life.
"He has left a trial of emotional destruction in his wake and no sentence will ever completely heal the wounds he has caused.
"However, the victims and his families can now at least be reassured that this man cannot physically hurt anyone else he is now where he truly belongs."
