Police hunt teen gunmen who threatened couple in Baguley

January 23 2012
Police are appealing for help to catch teenage gunmen who threatened a terrified coulple with a shotgun and pistol in Baguley last week.

The incident happened at about 2.50pm on Tuesday, 17 January 2012, when a 29 year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were threatened as they walked along Leaton Avenue, Baguley by two teenagers on pedal cycles.

One of them produced a sawn-off shotgun from a drawstring bag while the
other pulled a small handgun from his waistband. The man ran off, but the
woman was further threatened by the man with the shotgun.

A dispute took place and both were threatened with the firearms. The woman
was punched in the head before both gunmen rode off towards Floatshall
Road.

Police say both victims were left extremely shaken.

The offenders are described as white, aged between 16 and 18, with a slim
build, 5ft 7in tall and wearing tracksuits and had their faces covered.

Detective Sergeant David McCulloch, of South Manchester CID, said: "This
was an attack on a couple that was clearly intended to cause as much fear
as possible.

"We are now trying to establish the background to this incident and do not
want to rush to any conclusions about what led up to it.

"What I will say is that two men thought it was acceptable to produce deadly firearms and threaten two people in mid-afternoon just as the schools were about to finish for the day.

"The community will no doubt share our anger about this and I want to arrest those responsible along with recovering the guns they had access to.

"I now want to appeal to the local community. Do you know who these youths
were and where they may be storing these weapons?"

Anyone with information is asked to call South Manchester CID on 0161 856
6152 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
