Robbers snatch bag from woman in front of children

June 22 2011
Three young children watched in horror as a woman was hit in the face by robbers who snatched a bag from her car.

Shortly after 11pm on Sunday 19 June 2011, a man and a woman were getting
out of a car on Barnwood Road when they were approached by two men.

The pair pushed the man and the woman away from the vehicle, hitting the
woman in the face, and grabbed a handbag that was inside the car. Three youngster were in the car and saw the incident.

The victims struggled with the two offenders in an attempt to take back
the handbag. But, the two men ran off with the bag along Greenbrow Road.

The two men were both black and are described as wearing dark coloured clothing. One of the men had an afro haircut.

Detective Constable Rory Leicester said: "We are appealing for anyone that thinks they may have seen these two men running away from the Barnwood and Greenbrow Road area on Sunday evening to get in touch with us. It is also possible they may have had a vehicle nearby to make their getaway.

"The stolen bag is very distinctive as it is leopard print, so if anyone recognises this or has been offered it, please let us know.

"These two men had no regard for the victim or the fact that three young children were sat in the car and witnessed this crime. We are doing all we can to identify the pair responsible and are encouraging anyone with information to call police at West Didsbury on 0161 856 6151."

Members of the public can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers
anonymously with information on 0800 555 111.
