Wythenshawe rapist jailed

May 20 2011
A man who raped a woman in Wythenshawe and then threatened to kill her daughter if she reported him has been jailed for 11 years.

Kevin Reilly, aged 28, of Devoke Road, Woodhouse Park, was jailed today after being found guilty of rape at a trial in March this year.

In the early hours of Thursday 23 September 2010, Reilly went to the home of a couple he knew and the 24-year-old woman who lived there answered the door. He lied about being followed by the police and said he needed to stay.

Reilly immediately indicated that he wanted to have sex with her so the woman backed away but Reilly pulled her towards him and tried to undress her. The victim began screaming, waking her boyfriend, who came downstairs.

The woman then fled upstairs to her bedroom shaking and crying and both men followed her and Reilly stopped the victim from telling her boyfriend what had happened.

Reilly said he wanted to leave and that he wanted the woman to see him out, threatening to break her boyfriend's jaw if he followed them down.

Once downstairs, Reilly pushed the woman into a bathroom and raped her. Her boyfriend went downstairs eventually and interrupted the attack.

The rapist threatened the couple again, telling the woman that her daughter
would be killed if she reported him to police and then he left, but the boyfriend immediately called police and Reilly was arrested three quarters of an hour later at his home address.

Detective Constable Louise Howarth, based at South Manchester CID, said:
"Reilly terrorised two people in their own home, committed a horrible crime against this woman and put her through the trauma of reliving it in court.

"His victim and her partner have been extremely brave in facing Reilly
across a court and specially trained officers have supported them through
every step of the process to ensure justice was done for them."
