Cyclist fighting for life after collision in Northenden

A cyclist is in a critical condition in hospital following a collision in Northenden on Sunday.

The cyclist, a 35-year-old man, was cycling along Palatine Road towards Princess Parkway at 8am on Sunday 31 March 2013.

As the cyclist came level with the junction of Moor Lane, a blue Suzuki turned right into Moor Lane and collided with the bike, knocking the cyclist to the floor.

A silver Mercedes, which was also turning into Moor Lane and travelling behind the Suzuki, then also collided with the cyclist.

The 35-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment to serious chest injuries, where he remains in intensive care in a critical condition.

Police Sergeant Danny Byrne from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the cyclist and his family at this time, as the man remains seriously ill in hospital.

“We are investigating the circumstances surrounding this collision and are appealing for anyone who either witnessed the incident, or saw any of those involved in it driving on or near Palatine Road beforehand, to contact us.”
