Wythenshawe Town face Ashton Reserves on Saturday in the second round of the MCFA Challenge Trophy and will be hoping their winning streak continues.

The cup tie is a break from league action in which they have maintained their top spot in the in the Cheshire League Premier Division, following an impressive 4-2 victory against Altrincham Reserves last weekend.

The Ericstan Park side have started their campaign in great form, playing fantastic football.  But behind the scenes, the club developments are just as exciting.

When the now Chairman Kenny Hope took over from Billy Moore two seasons ago, he set an initial five-year plan to bring semi-professional football to Wythenshawe, with the belief the community deserve a club they can support and be proud of.

So far, in the last two seasons, the club has seen back-to-back title victories and has won five trophies.  This success in a such a short time not only means history is within touching distance, but the plan to reach semi-professional level could be achieved well ahead of schedule, two years ahead of the original plan.

Wythenshawe Town’s working partnership with professional club Fleetwood Town continues to develop.  As well as hosting the team regularly for games at their million-pound training facility, they bring a fundamental resource in terms of supporting the club’s development.  

 With Fleetwood’s assistance, alongside a renewed collaborative focus to ensure the Town becomes a semi-elite football club, huge emphasis is being placed on coaching at Ericstan Park.  This new strategy focuses on the technical elements of the game, bringing an overall understanding of football, from junior level through to the first team.  There is now continuous coaching of the coaches, to ensure the highest calibre of coaching throughout the club.
