Police appeal for witnesses after four arrests over Wythenshawe stabbing

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

At around 3.20am on Saturday 2nd May 2015, police were called by NWAS staff to an address on Chesham Avenue, Sharston following reports that a man had been stabbed.

Officers attended and found a 25-year-old man with a single stab wound to his chest. He was treated at the scene by ambulance staff before being taken to hospital, where he is currently undergoing surgery and remains in a critical condition.

Two men, aged 21 and 22, and two women, aged 45 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in police custody for questioning.

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Cunliffe of South Manchester Police said: “Firstly I would like to reassure the community that I have a dedicated team of detectives working solely on this case.

“They will be supported by uniformed officers, who will be working within the Sharston area.

“Crime scene examiners will be at the scene for most of today looking for clues along Chesham Avenue.

“This is a fast moving investigation, and, though four people have been arrested I am appealing to the members of the public to stop my officers on the street or ring the police station if you believe you have any information that will help us ascertain exactly what happened in the early hours of this morning.

“All information will be treated in confidence and you do not have to give your name if you so wish.

“I will keep the public updated as much as possible.”
