Wythenshawe Town are in action at home again this weekend to Garswood United, hoping to follow up their recent victory against Crewe with another win to keep them in contention for the league championship.

A very competitive game saw Wythenshawe Town run out 1-0 winners over Crewe FC on a foggy afternoon at Ericstan Park last week.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors after just seven minutes, when Captain Nathan Southern picked the ball up on the edge of the Wythenshawe area and spread the ball wide to Ian Carr who was in space just inside the area but he pulled his shot wide of Ben Daniels post in the Wythenshawe goal.

Wythenshawe’s first chance came after eleven minutes when Niall Rhodes picked the ball up 25 yards out but he fired wide of Wes Newton’s goal. The hosts kept the pressure on and after a good spell of possession the ball fell to fullback Vash Dixon 30 yards out but his effort went wide of the Crewe goal.

The best chance of the first half fell to Wythenshawe Town when David Moreno beat the right fullback Nick Farrington and his cross was met by Antonio Dinchin but his shot was saved by the legs of Wes Newton.

Crewe had a chance to take the lead on the stroke of half time when David Lowellette met a cross from Steve Parker but headed wide of Ben Daniels near post.

The hosts started the second half on the front foot and Ash McGrath picked the ball up and ran at the Crewe defence only to see his 25-yard effort go wide of the upright.

Just one minute later Crewe had a great chance to take the lead when they had a throw in deep in the Wythenshawe half and the ball fell to Nick Farrington who’s curling effort whistled just over Ben Daniels crossbar.

On the hour mark Wythenshawe Town took the lead when David Moreno played a through ball to Cyril Owalabi and he cut inside his marker and beat Crewe keeper Wes Newton at his near post from 15 yards. Just eight minutes later Wythenshawe had a chance to double there lead when a corner was defended by the Crewe defence, but the header fell to Niall Rhodes who fired wide from 8 yards.

On 70 minutes Crewe had their best chance of the half to equalise when they caught Wythenshawe on the counter attack and the ball fell to Danny Lowellette who managed to round the on coming keeper Ben Daniels but saw his shot cleared off the line by Vash Dixon.

Wythenshawe ended the game the stronger team and could of doubled their lead when Niall Rhodes twisted and turned his man but shot high and wide of the Crewe goal.
