Man dies after being struck by car in Benchill

Wythenshawe police are appealing for witnesses after a 36-year-old man was struck by a car in Benchill.

At around 6.45pm on Thursday 11 December 2014 a Ford Fiesta travelling along Greenwood Road , in the direction of Hollyhedge Road, was in collision with a 36-year-old man who was in the carriageway.

He suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police now want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision.

PC Philip Shaw, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man has lost his life in tragic circumstances and our thoughts are with his family. We now want to hear from anyone who may have seen what happened in the run up to this collision.”

A man has been arrested after reports that partygoers were threatened with a gun in Benchill last night.

Police investigate reports of shots fired at a house in Benchill, Wythenshawe

Police are investigating reports of shots being fired in Benchill, Wythenshawe.

Shots were reported at around 8.50pm on Wednesday 15 October 2014 at a house on Benchill Drive, Wythenshawe.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers went to the scene and an investigation is now underway. There are no reports of any injuries.

“A number of officers are now in the area to reassure local residents. Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101.”

Man who sparked fear in Wythenshawe after making false rape claim is given fixed penalty notice

A Wythenshawe man who made a false allegation he had been raped has been given a fixed penalty notice.

Police have refused to name the 22-year-old man who made the false claim in October which sparked concern in Wythenshawe.

Burglars smash windows in Benchill break-in

Burglars broke into a house in Newhey Road, Benchill yesterday.

Police say the burglars  smashed kitchen door and conservatory window when the offenders broke into the house between 10am- noon on Friday November 1.
