Man in court charged with Wythenshawe Park rape

A 30-year-old man has been charged after a woman was raped in Wythenshawe Park. 

Daniel McBurney from Sale has been charged with rape and robbery and will appear before Manchester Magistrates Court today, Saturday 11 July 2015.

The charges relate to a report made to police on Sunday 5 July 2015 that a 25-year-old woman had been raped in Wythenshawe Park.

Police investigating rape in Wythenshawe Park make arrest

Police are questioning a man in connection with a report of a rape of a woman in Wythenshawe Park at the weekend.

At around 4am on Sunday 5 July 2015, it was reported to police that a 25-year-old woman had been raped in Wythenshawe Park.

Following an investigation, police have now arrested a 30-year-old man on suspicion of rape. He is currently in custody helping with inquiries.

Motorcyclist fighting for life after collision in Benchill

A motorcyclist is fighting for his life following a collision in Benchill in which a young child was injured.

At about 3.50pm on Monday 15 June 2015, police were called to Brownley Road, at its junction with Chigwell Close, Benchill, following reports of a collision involving a car and a motorbike.

Officers attended and found a Nissan Qashqai and a Yamaha R1 had collided.

The driver of the car, a woman, suffered whiplash, cuts and bruises and her nine-year-old grandson also suffered injuries to his face and ribs. The child was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are described as serious but not life-threatening.

The motorcyclist suffered a serious head injury and also internal injuries and he remains in hospital in a critical condition.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4742.

Teenagers arrested following fire at Wythenshawe primary school

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of arson in Wythenshawe.

On Friday 5 June 2015, police were called to The Willows Primary School on Tayfield Road, to a report that a wooden playhouse was on fire.

Fire services were called to extinguish the blaze and there were no injuries.

Two boys aged, 13 and 14 have been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Inspector Luke Breakspear of South Manchester division said: “The playhouse was destroyed and I’m saddened at the news of the damage caused. I know this will resonate through the community as this is mindless damage and I’d like to reassure people that we are taking this seriously.

“I would also like to ask our community to please refrain from speculating about who is responsible on social media. If you have any information that may help our investigation, please contact police.”
