Some Liverpool fans have expressed concern over the appointment of Wythenshawe-born referee Anthony Taylor to officiate in their clash with Manchester United on Monday night.
The Empire of the Kop fanzine says the appointment is a “huge controversy”, given the referee’s Wythenshawe roots.
Taylor now lives in Trafford and according to the Liverpool Echo, claims to be an Altrincham supporter.
The controversy follows fan fury in April when the FA ignored protests from Everton supporters when Taylor their FA Cup semi-final clash with United at Wembley.
Some Liverpool fans are apparently not convinced by assurance of Taylor’s impartiality, although it was been pointed out that Taylor’s roots could just as easily make him a City fan as a red.
