A Wythenshawe man threw hot tea over a woman and brutally attacked her with an aerosol and a dustpan and brush before raping her.

Carl Anthony Weston, also known as Needham, aged 43 of the Wythenshawe area, was convicted of rape, section 18 assault and false imprisonment after a two-week trial.

The woman was raped in the Wythenshawe area on 23 December 2012. Weston was also convicted of a separate count of false imprisonment relating to an offence in the Lancashire area. 

He will be sentenced on 6 February 2014 at Manchester Crown Court Crown Square.

Between 11pm and midnight on 23 December 2012, Weston and his victim went to a house in Wythenshawe. Weston was extremely agitated because he had just been confronted in the street over an unpaid drugs debt of £600.

Weston demanded the victim help him pay the debt, but when she said she did not have enough money he punched her so hard in the mouth that her upper lip split entirely between her lip and her nose. He continued to beat her repeatedly before dragging her onto the sofa, where he sprayed deodorant aerosol in her eyes and threw hot tea over her head.

After hitting her with a dust pan brush and strangling her, he then shouted a number of verbal obscenities before raping her. Weston then prevented her from leaving the house and from seeking medical assistance.

The victim later managed to escape and confide in a friend about her ordeal and the police were called to investigate.
