A man was knocked unconscious after he was attacked outside a medical centre in Benchill.

At 4.50pm on Thursday 19 December 2013, police were called to reports that a group of boys, aged around 16, had attacked a man near to Benchill Medical Centre on Brownley Road in Benchill.

A 44 year-old man with head injuries was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Eight youths, aged between 13 and 17 years, have been arrested on suspicion of assault and are currently in police custody for questioning.

Police are appealing for information and witnesses.Detective Inspector Rebecca Duggan said: “We have made several arrests in connection with this incident but our enquiries are ongoing.

“We would urge anyone with information about what happened or who is responsible for this assault to contact police. If you were in the area and remember seeing a group of young men around the time of the assault we would also like to hear from you.
