Man aged 19 fighting for his life after road collision

A 19-year-old man is fighting for his life after being hit by a car last night in Northenden.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the  collision which happened on Palatine Road, Northenden at 6.15pm on Tuesday 6th January 2015.

A grey VW Golf was travelling westbound on Palatine Road, Northenden, when it collided with a pedestrian crossing at the junction of Gibwood Road.

The 19-year-old pedestrian was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital, where he was treated for a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain.

He is now in a serious, but stable condition at Salford Royal Hospital.

Constable Philip Turley, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with this young man as he hopefully recovers from this serious injury.

“But it is vitally important that we try and ascertain exactly what happened yesterday afternoon.

“That is why we need anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward and inform officers what they saw.”
