A man has appeared in court in connection with the attack on a Wythenshawe Hospital doctor when he attended a Mosque in Altrincham on Sunday.
Ian Anthony Rook, aged 28, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody until October when he will appear at Manchester Crown Court.
He has been charged with grievous bodily harm and possession of a lethal weapon in connection with an incident outside Altrincham and Hale Mosque.
At around 5.50pm on Sunday 24 September 2017 police were called to reports that a man had been stabbed outside the mosque on Grove Lane.
Emergency services attended and 58-year-old Dr Nasser Kurdy was taken to hospital with a stab wound to the back of his neck.
He was treated for his injuries at Wythenshawe Hospital where he works as an orthopaedic consultant and was discharged shortly afterwards.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said the force does not believe there was a racial motive to the attack.
A second man who had been arrested was released without charge after questioning.
