Man who tried to drive stolen car down wrong side of M-way is jailed

Drew McWilliamsA Wythenshawe man who tried to drive down the wrong side of the motorway in a stolen BMW and smashed into a police car has been jailed for three years. 

Drew McWilliam (25) of Cotefield Road, Wythenshawe was sentenced yesterday, Monday 25 September 2017, was jailed for three years for handling stolen property and one year for dangerous driving, to be served concurrently.

Manchester Crown Court at Minshull Street was shown footage of him running from a stolen car. He was found guilty following a three-day trial.

On 29 October 2016, McWilliam was spotted driving a stolen BMW from a home in Timperley and changed its plates in Wythenshawe, before driving onto the M6. Continue reading “Man who tried to drive stolen car down wrong side of M-way is jailed”

Men jailed after subjecting taxi driver to robbery ordeal

BurrowsMacdonald montageA taxi driver was left afraid to go back to work after he was attacked and robbed by two men and a teenage girl in Woodhouse Park, Wythenshawe.

Frog and Bucket Comedy Club comes to Wythenshawe

 

Manchester’s legendary Frog and Bucket comedy club is bringing top comedians to Wythenshawe in a road-show gig at the Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre.

The roadshow will be held Saturday September 24 featuring  Phil Ellis as MC with Chris McCausland and Rob Rouse the fantastic stand up acts.

Stars of the 70s to recreate Wythenshawe’s Golden Garter Club magic

sheps-outside-the-golden-garterThere’ll be a blast from the past at the end of the month as the resident cabaret act at Wythenshawe’s Golden Garter  Club make a return visit to the town.

Business steps in to feed elderly affected by power cut in Wythenshawe

momma-b-sWythenshawe’s community spirit has been praised after Woodhouse Park business, Momma B’s stepped in to help, following a fire at an industrial unit which left about 2000 homes and businesses without power yesterday.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in a tunnel on Southmoor Road carrying high voltage cables at 11.46am. Six fire engines were at the scene.

Momma B’s Sandwich Bar on Portway, Woodhouse Park was one of many businesses affected by the power cut but helped to provide meals for elderly and vulnerable people in the area.

The business stepped in after getting a plea for help from Wythenshawe Community Housing Group. They cooked the meals and delivered them to the housing group’s offices who then fed local people in the area, prompting praise from councillor Sarah Judge.

On their Facebook page Momma B’s said “It feels good to know that we have done our bit to help local vulnerable elderly people living alone”.

Schools and businesses in the area were affected by the power cut with Manchester Health Academy closing early. Tesco in Baguley was still open for business but was accepting payment by cash only.
