A family may be forced to cancel their holiday after burglars stole their passports and £33,000 worth of valuables.
Burglars broke into a house on Partridge Avenue, Baguley, on Monday afternoon by forcing open the front door and tore the house apart looking for valuables, stealing a large amount of cash, jewellery and electronic equipment totalling nearly £33,000.
They also stole eight British passports, meaning that the family may be forced to cancel a forthcoming trip abroad.
The thieves stole two digital cameras, four laptops, five watches, Asian jewellery worth almost £15,000 and more than £6,500 of cash.
The family had already been subjected to an attempted burglary late last year, when the offenders tried to enter the house via a set of ladders but were disturbed before they could gain entry.
Detective Constable Catherine Campbell said: “The family are understandably distraught by this theft.
“Not only have they lost treasured family heirlooms but also their passports meaning they may have to cancel their family holiday.
“We unfortunately do not have any descriptions of the person or people responsible, but are appealing for anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area on Monday afternoon to contact police as a matter of urgency.”
